The Life Lessons From COVID-19

Family togetherness during COVID-19
Share

As we begin to see the light at the end of this very long tunnel, we can start reflecting on what the difficult reality of the novel coronavirus has taught us, and how those lessons might affect the way we look to the future.

CTV News surveyed Canadians to discover the most common takeaways from COVID-19 (CTV article). Some of them are obvious, such as a renewed respect for the value of life and a deeper appreciation for one’s family and loved ones. But others are less so. As many were suddenly cut off from cherished friends or family, their mental health and emotional well-being became vulnerable. The reach of our professional and social spheres has changed dramatically, and many are finding themselves surprisingly content with a simpler and pared-down lifestyle. Still others have used the relative isolation to seek out activities or develop hobbies that bring personal joy or nurture their creative souls.

We have all been forced to cocoon over these difficult months. In many ways we survive the isolation by hanging on to our dearest and closest connections, whether they live with us in our cocoon or are a phone call away. When the pandemic dust settles, and we can freely hug those who we have missed, we may find that our priorities have changed. And that may be one of the few blessings to come from this time.

Stay safe and healthy.
